I think the man isn’t crazy because perhaps he schemed her to get out from house. The first reason is his thinking. After she said that he is crazy and she is going to put him into booby-hatch, he thought he had hated the word “booby”. Therefore, I think he had been said booby by her every day, so he planned this design. The second reason is his action. In the story, he didn’t come back home until the police seize her, so I imagine he waited the police did to succeed the design. For these two reason, the man isn’t crazy but a planned person.

    It does seem like he planned it; however, it also seems like he did indeed see a unicorn. Maybe he is a little 'crazy' but still able to function.
