The Country Should Help Foreigners

I oppose an opinion that the country has its own needs and shouldn’t help “foreigners” because the country should be responsible for safe place, people’s proper needs and growth. First, if the country doesn’t help poor foreigners or environmental refugees, the country could be dangerous place. For example, poor foreigners or environmental refugees who don’t have money and house could become homeless, and they seek food or require money. In the film “The Which Once Was”, there is the scene that a little girl who is one of the environmental refugees demands money on the street. If these people are increased, some crimes could be happened in order to get money. Therefore, not supporting foreigners could cause dangerous place.               One of the effects of climate change is that the way of people’ lives in a small island could be threatened. First of all, getting high temperatures have a climactic affect Arctic ice; for example, Handwerk (2004) states “since 1978, Arctic sea ice area has shrunk by some 9 percent per decade and has thinned as well”. For example, Kakissis (2010) explains that a small island such as Bangladesh situated only a couple of meters aloft on sea level and is customarily assailed by cyclones and floods. This demonstrates that some disasters triggered by climate change could put people’s lives in danger. After that, the grate number of people have to move the city as environmental refugees; moreover, “rapid and unplanned urbanization is expected to put even further strains on scarce water, energy and food resources” Kakissis...

Response for Innovations for the Developing World

One point that the author mentions is Sling shot that is Kamen’s water-cleaning machine could grow developing countries. This is suitable for these countries because it’s not complicated and efficient. First, people in poor countries are likely to drink dirty water, and they catch disease. However, Slingshot make them stay healthy to get clean and safe water. In addition, it could provide them business opportunity. As using example of Grameen Phone, people are supplied loans to use Slingshot, and they can earn by selling clean water; therefore, their stand of living could be higher. Lastly, using slingshot is reasonable compare to setting up big water system because everyone can use it easily, and only dirty water is needed to extract. In conclusion, it is useful for developing countries to utilize Slingshot because of health, business opportunity and reasonableness; thus, they should accept Kamen’s invention.
